Late Night Concert Series w/Frank Russell

Acclaimed Chicago Jazz Bassist and recording artist, Frank Russell most recently performed in the 15th Annual 2026 International Jazz Day All-Star Global Concert, sponsored by the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The concert was live streamed in 196 countries and viewed by over 250 million people. Frank shared the stage with jazz luminaries such as Christian McBride, Bobby Broom, Bobby Watson, Mino Cinelu, Terri Lynn Carrington, Melissa Aldana, John Beasley, Jacob Collier and more.
In addition to Frank’s own stellar background as a performer and leader, he is the official bassist for the legendary South African a cappella group, Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Frank performed in the play, Lindiwe in 2019 at the Steppenwolf Theatre Company with Ladysmith, where he was the musical director and helped compose the music, resulting in he and the group winning the prestigious 2020 Jeff Award for best Original Music in a Play. Frank’s fourth CD project is in tribute to Ladysmith and features the iconic group performing with some Of Chicago’s top jazz musicians and will be released in 2027.
Frank has also recorded or performed live with Wallace Roney, Freddie Hubbard, Paul Wertico, Michael Wolff, The Headhunters, Mike Clark, Bill Summers, Ramsey Lewis, Donald Harrison, Peter Erskine, Darryl Jones, Alphonse Mouzon, Robert Irving III and many more. Frank has played most of the jazz clubs in the Midwest and headlined many jazz festivals around the country. Frank is excited to have Kevin O’Connell on piano, Marquess Carroll on trumpet and Frank Morrison on drums.
