Christopher Neal would say he was born in the best city in the world — CHICAGO, and has been performing professionally for over 25 years. He was captured through music early by my mom’s glorious singing in church and his dad’s eclectic vinyl collection ranging from Mandrill to Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder to Ahmad Jamal, John Coltrane to Grover Washington and many others. “I knew I had to be a part of all these beautiful sounds.”
Piano lessons at five years old, saxophone since nine, choirs since junior high, a Bachelors in Vocal Performance, a Masters in Jazz Studies, a Masters in Elementary Education and many amazing life experiences and encounters. Neal continues to explore many avenues in music. Whether it be a Schubert art song, a Wayne Shorter composition, or a tune of his own, Neal is all about expression and evoking a feeling through my singing and playing.
Neal has had the opportunity to perform across the US as well as in Canada, Europe and South America while sharing the stage with the likes of The Temptations, The O’Jays, Taj Mahal, Buddy Guy, Donald Byrd, The Joffrey Ballet, Syl Johnson, R. Kelly, Gov’t Mule, Renaldo Domino, Huey Lewis, Umphrey’s McGee, Allison Russell, Chaka Khan, Brandi Carlile and many others.
