Andy’s 50th w/Hubbard Street Swingers

Showtimes:   6pm-7:15pm

In celebration of our 50th Anniversary, Andy’s Jazz Club proudly presents The Hubbard Street Swingers, an original & unique to Andy’s Jazz Club group that held down a weekly steady booking for 17+ years in the 1980’s and 1990’s.

The Hubbard Street Swingers harken back to the original days and early nights in which live music began being presented at Andy’s.  Some of the band’s original performances pre-date our current stage location as our earliest performances took place without a formal stage.  The band created such a buzz taking the scene by storm that they were featured at the 1982 Chicago Jazz Festival opening up for “The Great Quartet” of Freddie Hubbard, McCoy Tyner, Ron Carter & Tony Williams.

The band is being presented under the leadership of original founding member Phil Gratteau and originally consisted of tenor greats Eddie Johnson & Johnny Board, John Young & Truck Parham on piano & bass, Wilbur Campbell on vibes, Jo Belle Yonely on vocals with Gratteau on drums. This group held down a 17-year residency at Andy’s from the mid 1970’s thru the early 1990’s with the highlight of their evenings being their soaring rendition of Benny Goodman & Lionel Hampton’s “Flying Home”.
