Andy’s 50th w/Donald Harrison Jr
Showtimes: 6pm-7:15pm & 8:15pm-9:30pm
In celebration of our 50th Anniversary, Andy’s Jazz Club proudly presents the creator of Nouveau Swing Jazz, a blend of R&B, Funk, HipHop & African Dance, “The Big Chief” saxophonist Donald Harrison Jr.
2022 NEA Jazz Master Donald Harrison Jr. is a versatile musician & composer known for his mastery of jazz, soul, funk & orchestral classical music. Dubbed a “one-man music festival” his performances demonstrate his extensive knowledge of diverse musical styles.
As the Big Chief of Congo Square in Afro-New Orleans culture, Harrison preserves a vital root contributor to traditional jazz & modern music. In 2022 he was made Chief in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Holding down cultural titles of Chief on two continents has solidified him as a truly distinct figure amongst jazz artists today.
Harrison has collaborated with legends Miles Davis, Ron Carter, McCoy Tyner, Art Blakey, Roy Haynes and over 200 other jazz masters of every era and style. For this engagement he will be co-creating on stage with The Abney Effect Electrified to celebrate Andy’s Jazz Club’s 50th Anniversary year.
