The Abney Effect Electrified is the creative musical expression of trumpeter, composer, band leader and master musician Mario Abney that explores a soulfully unique fusion of Jazz House Funk. The Abney Effect Electrified blends hints of late era of Miles Davis, R&B-Jazz Funk Fusion group the Blackbyrds, Freddie Hubbard with the creative writing of Mario Abney. Coupled with the highly energetic performance style Abney brings to the stage, this show invites the listeners to take a journey into the depth of soundtrack level music personified.
In this ensemble, Mario Abney features some of Chicago’s greatest young musicians in his ensemble including Kenneth Leftridge on alto saxophone and EWI (electric wind instrument), Rick Hopkins on keys, Ivan Taylor on bass, Kia Tremel on vocals along with drummers Philip Fornett and Macarri Ramsey.
