Late Night Concert Series w/Blue Note Quartet
Showtimes: 10:30pm-11:45pm
Neal Alger’s Blue Note Quartet originated in 2010 and has performed in all major Chicago jazz venues over the years. This ensemble is dedicated to reviving the lesser-known gems from the 1955-1970 period of the classic Blue Note Records catalog. Some composers represented are Joe Henderson, Hank Mobley, Jackie McLean, Horace Silver, Duke Pearson, Wayne Shorter, and many others.
It makes perfect sense that band leader Neal Alger’s jazz guitar style and compositions reflect a variety of styles and approaches. Over the years, Neal has played different kinds of music and they’ve continued to influence him up to this day. For example, Neal performed hard rock/heavy metal as a teenager and co-wrote nearly all of the music in his first rock band entitled Requiem.
Alger is resurrecting the Blue Note Quartet after an almost 10 year hiatus and plainly states, “we are back and going to hit’em with both Blue Note Label classics & obscurities in a no-nonsense, straight-ahead manner”.
