Mike Benning & The Six Senses

Showtimes:  5pm-6:30pm & 7pm-8:30pm

Inspired by the hard bop era of jazz, Mike Benning and the Six Senses perform the music of Horace Silver, Cedar Walton, Wayne Shorter, and other pioneers of the post-bop period. As the name implies, this six-person band uses the "sixth" sense of intuition - sometimes known as a gut feeling or ESP - to create music in the moment that is sometimes impossible to describe how it came to be.

Michael Benning was born and raised in the near west suburbs of Chicago and attended music school at The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH, graduating in 2012. During undergrad, Mike was placed in an Art Blakey themed combo with some of the top players at the university that would shape his musical future forever. This particular musical education exposed him to writing for both rhythm and horn sections and ultimately culminated in his leading a sextet at the professional level.

Michael currently lives in Chicago working with various ensembles on a full-time basis. He has been fortunate to perform with the likes of Jimmy Heath, George Fludas, Bobby Broom, Dana Hall, Jerome Jennings, Emmet Cohen, Mike Smith, Ernest Dawkins and many others.
