Juli Wood is presenting “Eddie Who?” as tribute to late great saxophonist Eddie Harris. Eddie Harris was a man immersed in music. He was a composer, bandleader, performer, writer, innovator, inventor, and social critic. In many ways, his career epitomizes the very idea of exploration and self-study. He described his sound as a “soft” sound; one that some scholars might identify as part of the Stan Getz School. While this may be true, Eddie also identified with the school of saxophonist Lester Young.
For the past twenty years with four albums as a leader, several studio projects as a side man, and countless worldwide performances, saxophonist, vocalist and composer Juli Wood has established herself as a solid, swinging, lyrical and entertaining performer on Chicago’s music scene. Juli has played many jazz clubs and festivals locally such as at the Chicago Jazz Fest, Hyde Park Jazz Fest, Milwaukee’s Summerfest, All Chicago’s main jazz clubs. Internationally she has performed at Skansen Jazz and Blues (Stockholm , Sweden), Pori Jazz Fest (Finland), Bent J’s club (Aarhus, Denmark), Storyville (Helsinki Finland), Arlandia Jazz Fest (Aaland Islands, Finland) and the ” Made in Chicago ” jazz festival in Poznan Poland to name a few.
