The Clark Sommers Lens Project is a music collective led by two-time Grammy winner and tenured bassist for vocal icon Kurt Elling. The group seeks to explore music rooted in the rich history of jazz up through, including and beyond modern neo-soul. Joining him on his phantasmagorical journey into the sonic unknown are some of Chicago’s most sought-after practitioners of improvised, groove music including Chris Madsen, Geof Bradfield, Matt Gold, Scott Hesse, Dana Hall, Neil Hemphill and others. Mondays at Andy’s through August starting July 11th.
"Clark Sommers rings true and honest in tone. The golden color pours a solid foundation to the timber of the group." – All About Jazz.
Clark is proud to be at home in the bass chair with vocalist Kurt Elling, with whom he tours the globe bringing jazz to everyone from Istanbul to the Canary Islands. Thus far he has been privileged to play on two GRAMMY nominated recordings with the band, one of which won the GRAMMY for best vocal jazz album in 2009.
