SUMMARY:1st Set With Mallard and Hedez
DESCRIPTION:Showtimes:  6:00pm-7:15pm & 8:15pm-9:30pm\n\nMarion Sly Mallard is a young and upcoming artist in today’s music scene. She is an upright and electric bassist with many pursuits – performance, composition, touring, recording studio work, band-leading, music production/mixing, teaching, photography, and more. Originally from Decatur, IL, she has experienced many recognitions for her artistry, from being a JEN Sisters in Jazz selectee, to being selected for the prestigious Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Program. Marion moved to Chicago in 2020 to pursue and complete a degree in Jazz Studies at the DePaul University SOM, and since then she has become an important part of the music scene across a multitude of genres. Over the years, she has studied with many world-renowned musicians, such as Jason Moran, Mimi Jones, Marc Cary, Jimmy Greene, Carmen Lundy, Nate Smith, Dana Hall, Marlene Rosenberg, Lenard Simpson, Geof Bradfield, Scott Hesse, Sharel Cassity, Dennis Carroll, Carlos Henriquez, and Clark Sommers. She is currently involved in many ensembles, including those under her own name, as well as playing with world-renowned musicians such as Joel Ross. Marion is passionate in all her pursuits within the arts, and working toward many new collaborations within the Chicago and New York music scenes.\nIn 2015 Diego Hedez was admitted into Cuba’s selective National School of Arts (ENA) where he began developing his professional abilities and exploring his passion for music. He connected with several influential trumpet players during this time, most notably maestro Robert Garcia, a world-class and emblematic trumpeter of Cuba, who would guide Diego and reveal for him the magic within jazz music, showcasing how to mix contemporary elements with classic styles like bebop and Cuban rumba. This led Diego to develop his own vision as a composer, focused on Afro-Cuban music fused with jazz. He explored this sound through a new ensemble that he directed called Afro Cubanos. He also collaborated with several other bands during this time including the ENA Jazz Band and Joaquín Betancourt’s Joven Jazz Band, performing in significant theaters such as the National Theater of Cuba and the Teatro de Bellas Artes in Havana. These groups opened a new world for Diego, allowing him to connect and work with some other great players and artists from Cuba and also global artists like Dave Weckl, Brian Lynch, Victor Goines among others.\nClick Here For All Reservations\n\n\n
