Joe Policastro Trio feat. Howard Levy

Showtimes:  9:30pm-11pm & 11:30pm-1am

Harmonica and piano virtuoso Howard Levy joins this forward-thinking, progressive jazz trio for a collaborative presentation of original music and singular arrangements of jazz and popular music.

Hailed by Downbeat for its “deft analysis of choice repertoire,” and by the Chicago Reader for its “diversity of approaches to all kinds of source material,” the Joe Policastro Trio is a Chicago-based alternative jazz trio led by bassist Joe Policastro featuring guitarist Dave Miller and drummer Mikel Avery. While firmly rooted in jazz, the band’s open-minded, inclusive nature draws upon a wide array of musical styles and sources while still keeping the aesthetic of an acoustic trio intact.  Their recently-released fourth album, Nothing Here Belongs, focuses on the band's original music, whereas previous releases, West Side Story Suite (2013), POPS! (2016), and Screen Sounds (2017), highlighted the trio's ability to remake unlikely songs in its own raw, highly idiosyncratic fashion.

Multiple Grammy award-winner Howard Levy is an acknowledged master of the diatonic harmonica, a superb pianist, innovative composer, recording artist, bandleader, teacher, producer, and Chicago area resident.  A member of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, he is equally at home in Jazz, Classical music, Rock, Folk, Latin, and World Music making him sought after by the likes of Kenny Loggins, Dolly Parton, Paquito D’Rivera, Styx, Donald Fagen, and Paul Simon.  He leads and collaborates with numerous groups (Chévere de Chicago, Trio Globo, Acoustic Express, etc.), and as a sideman has appeared on hundreds of CDs and played on many movie soundtracks.
