-9:30pm and 11:30pm- Juan Pastor's Jazz Reunion
Start Date/Time: Friday, April 19, 2019 9:30 PM
Juan Pastor's modern instrumental jazz group is one that fuses the traditional North American jazz harmonic palette with exciting rhythmic concepts drawn from Central and South America. This distinct sonic brand is revealed through not only the original compositions, but also in the unique drums/percussion setup that Juan brings to both the recording and to the live concerts. While each member of the group is a wonderful soloist in his own right, the collective aura of the band is that of generosity and gratitude, always serving the music in a way that invites the listener to feel equal parts comfortable, challenged, and intrigued.

Juan began studying percussion under the tutelage of Eusebio Sirio “Pititi,” master of Afro-Peruvian percussion. At the Concervatorio Nacional de Lima, I studied classical music for five years. After realizing his interest in jazz, he moved to Chicago to study at Northern Illinois University where he received a Bachelor of Music and was part of the top jazz ensemble under the direction of Ronald Carter. He also studied under Greg Beyer, Rich Holly and Robert Chappell. In 2013 he received my Masters of Music from DePaul University studying under Dana Hall.
