    Originally from Oregon, Matt Shevitz has been an in demand musician in Chicago, Illinois for the last several years...so much so that he will not be in attendance this evening.  In his stead will be trumpeter Constantine Alexander.

Constantine Alexander
started playing piano at the age of 6 and trumpet at the age of 9. In high school, he studied with Michael McLaughlin at the Merit School of Music.  During his time at the Merit School of Music, he participated in the Latin Jazz Ensemble which featured notable guests, Brian Lynch and Wayne Wallace. 

In 2010, Constantine enrolled at Northern Illinois University (NIU), studying with Art Davis and participating in NIU Jazz Ensemble directed by Ron Carter. Being part of the ensemble was a life-changing experience for Constantine.  He was fortunate enough to tour and play with many artists which include: Ernie Watts, Randy Breaker, Brian Lynch, Terrell Stafford, Dennis Mackrell, Lou Tabakin, Sean Jones and Paquito D’Rivera at the Detroit Jazz Fest.  Constantine earned his degree from Roosevelt University in 2015 and studied under Victor Garcia. Currently, Constantine leads his own quintet and plays and teaches students full time.
