Pete Benson    One of Chicago’s premiere Hammond B3 players, Pete Benson has been in-demand as both a pianist and organist for over 20 years. Voted one of the top jazz organists for Down Beat magazine’s Rising Star Critics Poll seven years running, Pete can be heard weekly at Andy’s Jazz Club with his organ trio, performing a varied repertoire inspired by organ greats such as Larry Young and Melvin Rhyne along with standards by Thelonious Monk, Horace Silver, and Roland Kirk, to name a few.
Born in Sycamore, Illinois, Pete developed a love for music at an early age. He began his studies on a piano designed by his grandfather, a piano and organ designer for Wurlitzer. Pete maintains a busy performance schedule and continues to be on the forefront of the Chicago jazz scene. He can be seen performing with long time Chicago guitarist George Freeman in the George Freeman/Mike Allemana Organ Quartet featuring legendary drummer, Bernard Purdie, and has been a steady presence every Saturday night for the past 17 years at the Green Mill Lounge, currently playing with saxophonist Pat Mallinger and a rotating ensemble of Chicago’s top musicians.
